Today we celebrate Sandra’s graduation. A graduation is the results of success in achieving her chosen level of independence with her employment goals. Sandra's responsibilities at the Buckle Clothing Store in Idaho Falls include, unpacking and merchandising items on the floor and keeping the store clean and organized. As part of her employment services Sandra has had the assistance of job coaches both on and off the job. Since Sandra considers herself to be a very sociable person, the supports provided her tools and guidance on how to improve her ability to stay focused and become a self-starter, thus finding, and completing tasks independently while continuing to be social.
Sandra began her journey with DWI as part of the Extended Work Services (EWS) program, a steppingstone to her desire to have greater community employment. As a transition from work services, Sandra then applied the skills learned at a variety of jobs in the greater community. She has worked at Buckle Clothing in Idaho Falls for three years and with the support of her store managers and her job coaches, is ready to continue her journey independently.
Community employment services assist persons to obtain successful community employment opportunities that are responsive to their choices and preferences. Through a strengths-based approach the program provides person-directed services/supports to individuals to choose, achieve, and maintain employment. The service is provided until the individual and employer decide that the services are no longer needed.
Although DWI will no longer be needed for on-the-job training, we remain available to Sandra and the employer as a resource if needed.
While we are sad that we will not be checking in with Sandra as often, we know that she is doing what she enjoys and is supported by a DWI Champion employer.
Congratulations Sandra!
